food-not-lawn project - new path in
...plus, three of our downspouts will now water the front yard (instead of the foundation, which really isn't a useful thing to water) and the irrigation has been converted from overhead flap-back-n-forth style to drip/soaker hose style.
there have been some mysterious and interesting irrigation discoveries! ah the joy of a really old house! (clay sewer pipe anyone?). nothing bad yet, just weird old underground stuff..til we turn on the sprinkler system anyway.
the big rectangular flagstone will become a little sitting area up near the porch.

Food-not-lawn.... Love it!!!
We are working a brand new garden, see our blog "The Greener Life"...
We have been doing all sorts of creative things to make it work... Sue looked out the window two days ago and saw a group of guys weedwhacking and loading the weeds out of a vacant lot... She ran over and got the whole truckload of weeds for compost (we need it for the soil mix) for free... Freecycle got us free tools and odds and ends...
anyway, food security is a local thing...
We actually have a huge family living next door so we started growing beans and peas and tomatoes up and over the fence...
This garden is actually a pilot project for a food security program in our town.
Cuba used to import 90percent of its greens and fruits and now its inverted and all done with local food projects and community gardens...
Good Job!!
