Nope, there's no news
Just wanted to reassure everyone that we're not holding out on you...no news news on Sara. As far as we know, everything is moving along as planned. We are still hoping that the whole 'you have to register your adoption in progress, but there's no place set up to register' issue works itself out soon....that's the only potential weirdness (we think) left to worry about. Other than that, everything still looks good for a February homecoming.
We've been keeping busy by kicking the home improvements back into high gear. More than a year after we put hardwood floors in upstairs, we have (well, Mike has) put in baseboard trim! The is very awesome, because before we just had a gap where the dog hair & dust bunnies all collected. It wasn't very finished looking. Because we left a really wide gap between the edge of the floor & the wall (what was the reason for that again? Because the floor sure hasn't expanded any...it's so dry here it just contracts ) we had to layer up three pieces of trim, one on top of the other. Lots of trim. Lots of cutting. Still caulking & painting--I promise pics once we're done. But overall, it looks a million times better!!!
There is also a light at the end of the tunnel regarding the stairs. The terrible, terrible 'stripping the paint off the stairs' project that has probably taken ten years off my life in chemical exposure. They are stripped (imperfectly) and stained (imperfectly) and now we just need to sort out the 'keeping ourselves & the pets off the the stairs for a few days' issue while we polyurethane, with the special, fast-drying, not-polyurethane (and not full of yucky chemicals) stuff I bought. Waterborne finish? Something like that. It's supposed to be less toxic & nasty.
THEN...one last big challenge. Painting the stairwell, which will involve some very creative ladder solutions. It's tall. We'll figure that out somehow.
And then we rest! And hopefully pick up our kid from Guatemala!
